Tour of the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer at St. Vincent’s Medical Center
Patients needing advanced heart and vascular procedures at Bridgeport Hospital can benefit from one of the area’s leading-edge hybrid operating facilities, the Elizabeth M. Pfriem Hybrid Operating Room (OR).
“Betty Pfriem’s gift to support the hybrid OR was one of her last major gifts,” Bridgeport Hospital Foundation President Steve Jakab said. “The hybrid OR is a fitting tribute to her many years of generosity toward the hospital and community. Not only has she helped enhance patient care, she has set an example for many others about the importance of philanthropy.”
This hybrid OR combines features of a comprehensive angiography suite and formal OR with a built-in real-time imaging unit for high quality, low-dose X-ray. With the hybrid OR’s unique design, physicians are performing a variety of cardiac and vascular procedures – including transcatheter aortic valve replacement and aortic aneurysm repairs with enhanced patient safety aspects for best outcomes. The imaging unit provides detailed viewing for best placement of valves and vascular grafts to improve accuracy and outcomes, including a shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery.
